A New Curate!
We are delighted to announce that Bishop of Worcester has agreed to appoint Christine Turpin to serve as a Curate across the Bredon Hill Group of Parishes. Christine will be ordained Deacon on 4th July in Worcester Cathedral and will live in the curate’s house in Ashton under Hill. She is currently training for ministry at Westcott House in Cambridge. It is a great privilege to be asked to help train someone who is so recently ordained and I am sure that Christine will find a warm and supportive welcome from the people around Bredon Hill. CURATE CURIOSITY?
Hello to you all in the Churches surrounding Bredon Hill. My name is Christine Turpin and I am looking forward to joining you there as Curate this July. In anticipation of this, it was thought a good idea if I write a few lines about myself by way of an introduction, via the Parish magazine(s), so that you will know at least a little about me before I arrive.
I previously worshipped at Halesowen Parish Church (Halas Team Ministry) in the northern part of the Worcester Diocese and have been studying at Westcott Theological College in Cambridge full time since September 2007.
Cambridge is a beautiful place to study in, but I will be pleased to return to the Diocese of Worcester in a full time, working capacity, especially to somewhere so beautiful. My friends and family are also pleased that I will not be too far away. (They are mainly in the Halesowen, Walsall and Telford areas.)
Prior to embarking on theological training, I worked for over twenty years as a hospital Pharmacist. This was rewarding and interesting work, yet over time I was drawn, pushed, pulled and affirmed into hearing, accepting and acting upon another calling. Which brings me to the point I am at now. I have to say, it is a bit of a scary, humbling point, with so many unknowns before me. However, it is also exciting with many opportunities and new experiences waiting for me.
Now I read it, this introduction does seem a bit flat, yet putting aside the temptation to feign an interest in mountaineering or lion taming, I think it best that you get to know me better - flat or otherwise – in person. Then I can tell you all about the lion taming. (Only joking.)
Whatever shape I may be, flat or otherwise, I pray that God will use me to serve you well and that we may learn from one another and indeed be a blessing to each other in the time that we will share ahead.
With all good wishes until we meet in the Summer, Christine

Donkeys Cause Excitement at Palm Sunday Procession!
On Palm Sunday, one of the Rector’s long-held wishes finally came true - donkeys were used in the Palm Sunday procession to St. Giles. But not only one, but two! |
|
On this beautiful, sunny, spring morning, the procession set off from Draper’s store for St. Giles, the donkey behaving impeccably.
George Elliot rode on his back, taking the part of Jesus. |

The choir and congregation sang as they made their way to church for the Palm Sunday service. |
